Michael Best
Screenwriter
Michael is an award winning writer, actor, comedian and TV producer based in Halifax, NS. He has written for several Canadian productions such as Street Cents, Popular Mechanics for Kids, Olliver's Adventures (Canadian Screenwriting Award Nomination), Delilah and Julius, Prank Patrol, Lunar Jim and This Hour Has 22 Minutes for which he shared a 2001 Canadian Comedy Award for Best Writing in a Series.
As an actor and comedian, Michael has appeared in several shows for CBC-TV The Comedy Network and NBC. Michael is also co-founder of Birdy Num Num, the outrageous Halifax comedy ensemble which earned him a second Canadian Comedy Award nomination for Best Sketch Group in 2002.
As a stand-up, Michael has appeared at many venues including Yuk Yuk's, The Rivoli, Clinton's, Slack Alice and Second City's Tim Sims Playhouse in Toronto. Michael also created, wrote and starred in a series of three comedic shorts called Ace In The Hole which have screened at international film festivals in Australia, Vancouver, Toronto, Halifax and Hamburg.
In November, 2005. Michael’s debut play Gay White Trash opened at The Crib Theatre and enjoyed rave reviews and a sold out, two-week run. It garnered four nominations at the 2006 Robert Merritt Theatre Awards for excellence in theatre in Nova Scotia and walked away with the awards for Outstanding New Play (for Michael) and Outstanding Actor in a Lead Role for Kevin Curran).
Michael also served as Supervising Producer and Executive Story Editor for season 3 of the animated Olliver’s Adventures produced by Halifax’s Collideascope Digital Productions and Decode Entertainment.
Most recently, Michael was a producer and weekly contributor for CBC TV’s Living Halifax which culminated in producing and appearing in a hilarious pilot for a new TV lifestyle series called "Half-Cocked" with Jennifer Adcock. He is currently reconnecting with the live comedy scene while shopping around a feature film comedy script titled "Go To Hell", developed with the assistance of Telefilm Canada's Writer's First Program.
